Description of Deliverables:

  • The research on DeFi applications to cover these main areas:

      1. Would the proposed MiCA regulation apply to DeFi protocols
      1. Which other EU rules could apply to DeFi protocols: Mifid II, consumer credit, rules on investment schemes etc.

  • The purpose would be:

    • a) explain peculiarities of the blockchain environment and the smart contract technologies
    • b) explain why the existing rules do not fit with DeFi
    • c) propose modifications of the existent rules if needed or clarify that they may not be applied to non-custodial protocols

  • Paper to be in a format that can be circulated to European regulators/policy makers

Would the team on this project like any assistance?

I missed the staffing proposal but I specialise in this area and would love to contribute. I work in the investment funds space so would be particularly familiar with MiFID and any issues around collective investment schemes. I regularly work with European financial regulators.
